Tata Nexon is undoubtedly one of the biggest launches of 2017 in the Indian market. The SUV from the house of Tata Motors has been capturing headlines since its launch. With the successful rolling out of the Nexon sub-compact SUV, the automaker is now gearing up to launch the automatic version of the vehicle in the country. The emerging media reports hint that the new AMT version is likely to make its public debut at Delhi Auto Expo 2018, which is to be held from February 9th to 14th.

Tata Motors has recently showcased the AMT version of the Tiago hatchback only with the petrol engine option. However, the new Tata Nexon automatic is reported to be offered in both petrol and diesel engines. The overall appearance of the vehicle will remain identical to the existing version. However, the AMT option is expected to be available on the range-topping XTA and XZA trims. Let’s get to know more about the upcoming AMT version of the hot favourite SUV, Nexon.

Exterior and Interior

The exterior styling and interior features of the new Nexon AMT will not receive any noticeable modifications. The SUV continues to retain its aggressive styling with projector headlights with integrated LED DRLs, new chrome-garnished grille, sculpted bonnet and a revised bumper. The side profile remains the same with minimum body creases and the rear continues to sport the newly styled LED tail lights.

The interior of the Nexon looks to be a premium one featuring auto climate control, keyless entry, engine push-start button, voice alerts, a 6.5-inch ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system along with an 8-speaker sound system. Besides, it will also feature rear armrest with cup holders, rear viewing camera and lot more. The sub-compact SUV will offer multiple drive modes namely, City, Economy and Sport.

Power Mechanism

The outgoing Tata Nexon is offered in two engine options – a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine – both generating the highest power output of 108.5 bhp at 5000 revolutions per minute and 3750 revolutions per minute, respectively.

The forthcoming Tata Nexon automatic will continue to be powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol unit and a 1.5-litre Revotorq turbocharged diesel engine options. The petrol engine is tuned to produce a max power of 108.5 bhp at 5,000 revolutions per minute along with a peak torque of 170 Nm at 2,000 – 4,000 revolutions per minute while the AMT diesel engine will churn out 108.5 bhp of max power at 3,750 revolutions per minute with a max torque of 260 Nm at 1,500 – 2,750 revolutions per minute. The AMT iteration will be derivative of the 6-speed manual transmission gearbox used by both petrol and diesel engines.

Is it worth waiting?

The pricing of the Tata Nexon AMT is estimated to go up by Rs. 50,000 than the outgoing manual transmission models. The ex-showroom prices for the new Nexon AMT can be fetched from Autoportal.com.

However, it seems that the Nexon AMT will strongly rival with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV 300 that have automatic transmission option on offer. Besides, the Ford EcoSport also features a torque-converter. The Nexon AMT will be the fifth Tata vehicle to feature an Automatic Manual Transmission option after the Nano, Zest, Tiago and Tigor. Furthermore, it will be the only sub-4-metre compact SUV that will offer an AMT in both petrol and diesel variants.
